Because of budgetary constraints in the District, maintenance of the Park has increasingly become the responsibility of private citizens. At Mitchell Park, this is a year-round operation costing about $50,000.
Friends of Mitchell Park is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization made up of neighbors. Our sole revenue is derived from neighborhood contributions. Your contributions are tax deductible.
Your generous contributions provide support for new plantings, garden maintenance and upkeep, park renovations and more.
Volunteer
Maintaining 24,950 plantings in the Park is a daunting task.
We need volunteers to help with various hands-on park projects. These projects include helping out in the herb/pollinator garden and other scheduled maintenance activities. You can support us by volunteering during the months of April through November.
In addition, the Activities Committee organizes events to bring the community together. New ideas, energy and time are welcome. We always need extra help at scheduled events such as Fall Fun Day, our largest event.
